Linturetki 13.12. / Bird watching 13.12.

"Häh, lintuja joulukuussa?"
Lähdemme etsimään koskien valkokaulaista lihapullaa, eli koskikaraa
(Cinclus cinclus)!* Koskikara sopisi paremmin puunoksalle
kyhjöttämään, mutta tämä hullu lintu viettää aikaansa enimmäkseen
koskissa sukelellen. Tämän lisäksi saatamme törmätä jänniin tikkoihin
ja muihin karaistuneisiin siivekkäisiin. Nyt on helppo ajankohta
opetella tunnistusta, kun lintulajeja ei ole niin paljon. Autan
tunnistuksessa parhaani mukaan ja voitte luonnollisesti tulla mukaan
vain kävelylle.

"Vau! Miten tähän mielettömyyteen voi osallistua?"
Aloitamme varhain, tapaamme sunnuntaina 13.12. klo. 9.00 Tekniikan
museon Viikintien portilla (Vanhankaupunginkosken yli menevällä

Teemme ensin kierroksen koskella ja Pornaistenniemessä, sitten
suuntaamme Lammassaareen ja päätämme sen jälkeen retken
aloituspaikalle. Ottakaa lämmintä vaatetta päälle, lahdella voi tuulla
kylmästi. Myös omat eväät ja lämpimät juomat voivat olla paikallaan.
Mitään lopettamisajankohtaa ei ole, mutta reitin kulkeminen kestänee
ainakin pari tuntia. Voitte tietenkin liittyä seuraan myöhemmin ja/tai
lähteä aikaisemmin.

Ilmoitelkaa minulle mielellään tulostanne s-postissa niko.bjorkell
[ät] helsinki.fi. Voitte kysellä varusteita lainaan, niin yritän
järjestää.

"What's this? Birds? Now in winter?"
We're going on an awesome dipper (Cinclus cinclus) excursion!* The
dipper is a weird bird, it looks like it would rather belong to the
sky, but in reality it spends it's time diving in rapid waters! On top
of that we might get a glimpse of some woodpeckers or other hardy
winter species. There are not as many species as there are in other
seasons and that makes it easier to recognize them! I'll help as best
as I can and you are, of course, welcome to join for just a nice walk
in the nature.

"Cool! So how do I join this crazyness?"
We start early on Sunday 13.12. at 9.00 a.m. The starting place is at
the gates of the Museum of Technology at Viikintie (there's a bridge
for cars over the river). Helsinki Region Transport has a bus stop

We'll first walk around Pornaistenniemi, then go to the island
Lammassaari and end our trip after that. Put on enough clothes,
because the winds can be really cold on the bay. Take your own food
and warm drinks with you, we will be out for at least a few hours. It
is of course possible to join later and/or leave earlier, if you wish!

I prefer if you contact me at niko.bjorkell [at] helsinki.fi if you
are participating. I might be able borrow some bird watching
equipment, so ask if you need something.
